Early American Literature Influenced by Religious...
In the beginning times of American Literature, Puritan writers were prevalent which grew into the Age of Reason by way of scientists and philosophers, which eventually emerged into Romanticism and the Renaissance writers, which developed into Realism by the middle of 19th century. Throughout American Literature, religious ideologies and philosophies influenced the way that writers portrayed the time period, characters, feelings, and God. Through Puritan writers, literature is influenced by religious ideologies and philosophies. Puritans writers, beginning in about 1560, put most of their focus into making their work God centered. They believed in the ââ¬Å"Electâ⬠and that Jesus died only for these few people. Writers usually wrote in 1stâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦She also thanks God during situations that could seem like nothing to be thankful about like, ââ¬Å"yet the Lord by his almighty power, preserved a number of us from deathâ⬠(Rowlandson 10). Through both the narratives of the lives of Equiano and Rowlandson, the Puritan literature is influence by religious ideologies and philosophies. By the end of the 17th century, new ideas formed in Europe challenging the faith of the Puritans, during the period of time known as the Age of Reason. Also known as the Enlightenment, it began with philosophers and scientists who called themselves rationalists, believing that one can arrive at truth by using r eason, instead of religious faith or intuition. As the Puritans in the past saw God as being active in the involvement of the workings of the universe, the rationalists compared God to a clockmaker, and that Godââ¬â¢s gift to humanity was the ability to think in a logical manner. Like the Puritans, rationalists discovered God through the medium of the natural world, but believed in deism, that God made it possible to discover nature laws through their power of reason, given by Him. Voices of Freedom Critique Free Essays
This selection, Letter by a Female Indentured Servant, really gives you incite as to what life was like in the 1700s as an indentured servant. (Foner, 2011) The reader can really feel the pain she is going through while she was in America trying to pay her dues for passage to what they thought was the promise land. She wanted to ensure her father really knew what kind of horrible life she was living because of the details she included like she was whipped to the degree that she now serves the animals. We will write a custom essay sample on Voices of Freedom Critique or any similar topic only for you Order Now Apparently, you didnââ¬â¢t speak of the horrible things that would occur as an indentured servant because she writes to her father that she hopes he will pardon the boldness of her complaints and she also hope that he will take pity on her. I feel like she would have been an indentured servant for a very long time because she writes to her father that she is banished forever from his sight and is practically begging for sympathy. Also read thisà Critique of Stuff Is Not Salvation However, I am surprised that she was even allowed to write to her family because she describes her life as working very hard almost day and night and often in the horseââ¬â¢s drudgery with the slave masters saying that she doesnââ¬â¢t do half enough work. She also feels that this is the type of work she needs to do for the respect of her father, uncles, aunts, and all friends. On the complete and opposite side of the spectrum, the Letter by a Swiss-German immigrant to Pennsylvania shows that this immigrant was very content with his decision to come to America. Foner, 2011) He now lives in a free country where one can settle anywhere he wants when the land is bought or leased. He thinks a free country is where a person has the right to own property and he focuses on this one freedom and doesnââ¬â¢t even think about the other statues. This immigrant really feels he has in fact found the promise land and that he wants his family to come and join him. In my opinion, I think he c omes from a wealthier family, so maybe he didnââ¬â¢t have to work as an indentured servant because he could just pay for his travel to America. He also states he can buy things like shoes for more reasonably in Pennsylvania than in Germany. These two letters are taken from two very different perspectives and shows you how some people were treated inhumane and some were treated very kindly depending on their social statuses in the 1700s. In the except from The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano, or Gustavus Vassa, the African, he did not talk about the horrible treatment of a slave like beatings they would receive or how they were not fed but rather how they were ripped away from their family and friends. (Foner, 2011) The author wanted the reader to realize that they were parted from family and friends because of the greed of the white man and that this is the new refinement in cruelty during those times. He made it known that the only positive aspect of being a slave was at least they were able to be with their friends and family, but now the white man had taken that away. He is asking the white men to liv e up to their perceived belief in liberty and that all men are created equal according to their god. He also is asking, why the African people should give up their comfort of being together because the white men want their luxuries. In the excerpt taken from Pontiac, Speeches the author makes it known that the Indians were not backing down from the Englishmen because they were before the Englishmen and their ancestors had passed down the land to them. . (Foner, 2011) The Indians followed the Great Spirit which was like their idea of a god. The Great Spirit had told Neolin that the Indians had forgotten their customs and traditions and now had become more comfortable with the Englishmen which shamed their ancestors. Their god is basically trying to inform the Indians that if they get too close to the enemies then they will take all the land and food that they had worked so hard for and once they eliminated the English then they would be back in good graces with the Great Spirit. The moral of the story is to not let your guard down for a second, or the enemy will consume you and everything you own. From the article Petition of Committee in Behalf of the Freedmen to Andrew Johnson shows the author of the letter is pleading with the President not to take away their land that they worked so hard to keep after they were freed. (Foner, 2011) The freedmen are saying that they were abused and oppressed on the land and now should be allowed to purchase any land. Basically the freedmen now wanted equal rights because every other free person were allowed to purchase a home in their hometown so why shouldnââ¬â¢t the freed slaves be allowed to purchase land also. They felt like President Johnson was not upholding President Lincolnââ¬â¢s proclamation. Even though the freedmen tried so hard President Johnson did not change his policy. A Sharecropping Contract, shows that few former slaves were allowed to acquire land but not without completing hard labor on their part. Foner, 2011) Essentially, the former slaves were still working in the same capacity as they were before except this time they were able to sell some of the crops. They also had to pay for any damages made to the stock and had to supply everything that was needed to harvest the crops. The Freed men were the land ownerââ¬â¢s employees instead of slaves. They also had to harvest one half of the crops for the land owner. This contract is very one sided, and Iââ¬â¢m not sure that this is any better than being a slave. Business Information Systems in Australia
Question: Describe about the business information systems in Australia. Answer: Introduction The information system is a well-organised system that collects, organises, stores, and helps in the communication of the information. It is the composed of the different aspects of technology in a systematic way that enables the processing and interpretation of the data and information (Bajdor Grabara 2014). The taxi cab is the basic mode of the travelling in Australia. There are lots of people who uses taxi cab for travelling instead of their car. UberX is one of the most standard cab providing system that is used in all big cities like, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, and lot more. This report deals with the information system used in UberX in Australia (Uber.com. 2016). 1. About UberX UberX is a part of Uber Technologies Inc. that is an American based company for providing transportation services to people using online booking system. UberX has spread all over the world and changed the mode of transportation for people. The system of waiting for a taxi has gone and most of the people opt for the UberX. 1.1 Why UberX? The simple question why UberX and why, not normal taxi services are because of the advanced information system used in UberX. The technological advancement in UberX has resulted in more usage of UberX against normal taxi services. Technical Advancement: For normal booking of taxi people either have to wait for a passenger less taxi or go to the pre-paid taxi service. But UberX can be booked online using the companys website. It supports an app that can be booked for the taxi cab booking. Economic: People say "Time is money". So there is no point in waiting for a taxi when it is possible to use the smartphone and book UberX cab for their own. UberX has low rates in compare to most of the other cab providing companies in the country (Hall et al. 2015). Behavioural: UberX app provides its customers with a chance for rating the ride and the driver. This feedback can be used for the improvement of their services. It encourages virtual social interactions of the customers and the company using Information technology (Tran et al. 2013). 2. Information system in UberX UberX uses the smartphone app for online booking of the cabs. The app acts as the gateway portal for rendering all the services provided by the company. Figure1: Uber app interface The app is available on all platforms like, Android, Windows, IOS, etc. The app interface is simple and has tabs for selecting the car, entering the pickup and drop points and estimation of fare before booking the cab. Figure2: GPS in UberX Modern Global Positioning Service or GPS is used by the company in its cab to know the exact location of pickup and drop for its customers (Leick et al. 2015). The customers enable the GPS on their device and book the cab using the app. The GPS enabled device lets them know and select the cab from the app interface. The cab drivers are provided with a smartphone with app service for the driver installed. They use the same GPS for locating the pickup location entered by its customers. In this way, the information system helps in booking the cab easily. 3. Implementing the New system of App The information system used in UberX is the app that is used for booking the cab. The company has developed the app based on programming and the internet services. The user needs to register in the app using either email or mobile no. The app once being registered takes the user to the interface where the user can see the map of the locality. If there are nay available cab, nearby it would be displayed on the screen. After booking the cab the driver's information is shown to the user and the driver is notified with the customers information. The system is quite good and easy to use. But there is a lack of security in the system. There have been some reports of the information leak or money charged without any reason. UberX uses the online payment gateways that are linked to their bank account. The hackers have somehow hacked into their account using the information from the app and resulted in this money theft. The risk of data leak can be easily solved using strong encryption in the app programming for securing the users information (Daemen Rijmen 2013). The phased operation works in various stages and a new framework is used in units or stages. It is a combination of direct cutover and parallel like pilot operation. The whole framework is given to a few clients rather a piece of a framework to all clients. In Phased operation, the threat of faults or discontents is restricted to the sample model. It is less costly than the full parallel operation. So phased operation can be used for implying the new technology (Hill Hill 2012). 4. Expected time for Implication The app development is in continuous motion. The occasional feedbacks from the customer help in modifying the services of the app and the cab. The encryption of data and information should be used in sample process and if it generates any bug, the system should be modified again. The expected time for the sample analysis could take approximately few months of time. But it depends on the level of app programming used. Conclusion The information system is the backbone of any industry. The new and innovative ideas and approach that are discovered in Information Technology provides benefits to people in every sphere of life. UberX is a major cab service provider that markets throughout the major areas of the globe. It is one of the leading cab service providers in Australia. The system and information system that UberX uses is the modern smartphone app technique. The app is the complete gateway for accessing all the services of the company. The app is an advanced application that uses modern information technologies like, GPS, wireless network, location indexing and fare estimation using the time and distance (Geisser 2016). Persuasive essay examples
Persuasive essay examples that work for college in 2017 It Is About Time to Consider Plastic Surgery Socially Acceptable! The perception of beauty has changed throughout the story and varies from one culture to another. Regardless of the ââ¬Å"trendâ⬠, there is always a growing need to conform to those standards, fit in, and being considered as beautiful. That explains why an increasing number of people, particularly young women, consider changing their appearance. With the evolution of the technology, the internet, and rise of celebrities, we are continually exposed to a wide array of advertisements for cosmetics, surgical procedures, fitness programs, and other factors that attract target demographics. Despite the fact the plastic surgery has been around for a long time, it is still a taboo and undergoing these procedures is frowned upon. The role and perception of beauty constantly change and although plastic surgery takes away the ââ¬Å"natural lookâ⬠, it is about time to deem these treatments socially acceptable. One of the most significant gains from undergoing plastic surgery is improved self-confidence. Contrary to the popular belief, strong desire to change appearance or correct some ââ¬Å"flawâ⬠usually in the facial area is not primarily caused by dysmorphophobia. Dysmorphophobia is defined as a preoccupation with an imagined defect regarding a personââ¬â¢s physical appearance. The decision to undergo a plastic surgery can be a rational, conscious move made by an individual with a desire to not only improve appearance but self-esteem at the same time. For example, some individuals have certain physical features with a tremendous impact on their overall quality of life such as skull deformations, excessive pigmentation, and many others. While some people, simply, learn to live with these features, others find it difficult to cope thus avoid social interactions. In these instances, the plastic surgery goes beyond removing these abnormalities; it provides a person the ability to h ave a normal life. Besides correcting abnormalities, plastic surgery is used for medical reasons such as to relieve a migraine or to cover up the damage caused by thermal burn, deep scars, and other injuries sustained in different kinds of accidents. In this case, plastic surgery helps patients restore the original appearance they had prior to the unfortunate event or improves the quality of life by relieving pain. When discussing the role of plastic surgery, it is important not to forget the fact it enhances oneââ¬â¢s health condition, particularly for women with large breasts. Ladies who are faced with this issue experience mild to severe back pain and other symptoms; which is why breast reduction procedure poses as an ideal solution. Of course, there is always the risk of taking it too far and numerous are the cases wherein the individual becomes addicted to nips and tucks. It adds to the societyââ¬â¢s perception of surgical procedures as unhealthy, unnecessary, and those who undergo them are branded as superficial. Nonetheless, we seem to underestimate the importance of letting people live their lives the way they see fit. Every individual has the right to improve his or her appearance and be happy and we have no say in someone elseââ¬â¢s decisions. This is about accepting differences, we may not like plastic surgery and would never do such a thing, but it is important to accept someone elseââ¬â¢s choices. Plastic surgery has been around for decades, but it still faces stigma. Although we live in the 21st century, it is still unacceptable to change the appearance, regardless of the reason. Society evolves just like beauty and if it makes someone happy, who are we to judge?

25 to Life Professor Ramos Blog
25 to Life 25 to Lifeà is the sentencing for murder. This song is about Marshals relationship with Hip-Hop. F*ck You Hip-Hop Im leaving you, my life sentence is served meaning that he gave his life to Hip-Hop, he sacrifice everything for it, he was so devoted that he didnt spend anytime with his girls Jealous when I spend time with the girls. In this song, he is saying how he is done with Hip-Hop, how he gave everything to it and it didnt give anything back, it didnt appriciate him. Hes saying hes walking out on Hip-Hop, hes divoricing it, Go marry someone else and make em famous He became addicted to it, and this is his release/recovery.The origin of the song was created by Eminem on latest album ââ¬Å"Recoveryâ⬠that was release June 18, 2010. It was produced by DJ Khalil and features the vocals of Liz Rodrigues, who is a member of the producers group. On this mellow track Eminem compares his hip-hop career to torn relationships, detailing how his devotion to music and the resulting f ame has affected his ability to relate to women. So, you could relate on real life situation we have struggles in life we be Eminem shoes and be like man I went through same thing. Having producer and artist was great collapse to bring the song out The song starts of Liz Rodriguez singing ââ¬Å"Too late for the other side Caught in a chase, 25 to life Too late for the other side Caught in a chase, 25 to life Too lateâ⬠She keeps saying ââ¬Å"25 to lifeâ⬠it keeps repeating to itself through the song. While Eminem keeps singing all his life struggles through the song. He sings aggressive you could feel the pain while he sings. Liz sings her part very calm basically telling Eminem that its to late your so deep that it will be hard for you to leave me basically. Eminem keeps saying to her all the shit I do for its not good for you. The pattern is good because Eminem keeps telling her his felling and Liz just its to late to go to the other side. Chorus from the piano hits the notes right it ââ¬Å"25 to Lifeâ⬠song hits all three its appeal to ethics, it also apples to emotion, and appeal to logic. It appeals to ethics by s ââ¬Å"a way of convincing an audience of an argument by creating an emotional response to an impassioned plea or a convincing storyâ⬠(YOURDICTONARY) which Eminem sings about ââ¬Å"I dont think she understands the sacrifices that Ive made Maybe if this bitch had acted right I woulda stayed But Ive already wasted over half my life, I woulda laid Down and died for you, I no longer cry for you, no more painâ⬠(Eminem) he starts of the struggles and efforts he puts in for her and yet she never gave him any love for he was doing. Right there states already one that might go threw same emotion and struggle we could all relate too. In logic he gives a way of persuading his reason using facts and figures. As we know he had issue with his previous relationship even from his first wife Kim when starting of his career it was a struggle for him. T he media came out was always around him since he was becoming up coming rapper which draws big attention. They were always following his wife even through the argument they had and cheating scandal in his beginning of his career. Which part of his verse he states ââ¬Å"I gave up my life for you, totally devoted to you I have stayed Faithful all the way, this is how I fuckin get repaid? Look at how I dress, fuckin baggy sweats, go to work a mess Always in a rush to get back to you, I aint heard you yet Not even once say you appreciate me, I deserve respectâ⬠à (Eminem) here you could tell the suffering he was having just to please for his wife so hes giving his life experience he went through. Eminem uses Logic through all his music not just ââ¬Å"25 to Lifeâ⬠since we know a little about his life hes not afraid to share it with his fans. His music helps men or women understand just to become the greatest it going to be hard to retain it or detain it since life comes ob stacles you need to be ready to make some sacrifice along the way. This is amazing to listen to after being cheated on. Theres like no words for how powerful this is. It explains my past 8 year to the max. I gave everything, was always waiting to get something back in hopes itd get better, but I was addicted to her. Ended up getting cheated on and left behind. Thank god Ive always got Eminem. Everything Eminem said I picture myself. Especially when he says,â⬠Look at how I dress, fuckin baggy sweats, go to work a mess Always in a rush to get back to you, I aint heard you yet Not even once say you appreciate me, I deserve respectâ⬠I worked two jobs and went school for my family it was never good for her. My life was to better my family for some reason it always backfired in return. Eminem brought my life to this song it was struggle and painful especially when driving to work at night and this song played just want to let everything out and shout out this line. Thatââ¬â¢s why the song ââ¬Å"25 to Lifeâ⬠was very powerful song and one my favorite from the album ââ¬Å"Recoveryâ⬠. Eminem had a lot to state from losing his friend Proof (DeShaun Dupree Holton), his drug addiction almost cost him his life, and going through a breakup. People that are going a tuff time like myself could relate to it and having it from a male point of view is even better. Recovery album is one his greatest and those who wants to hear it wonââ¬â¢t be disappointed especially if your feeling down. Journal - Essay Example The way an individual interprets his/her existence and the different formation phases actually impacts his outlook towards the entire world in addition to the decision making styles, key interests, social activities and the overall attitude. For instance, if a person believes that everything in the universe came by itself, then such an individual will most probably project a careless attitude towards the world and people around him. I personally believe that the whole mankind and everything that resides in the universe cannot come into existence by mere chance or through big bang. Moreover, such a concept is actually the rejection of complex scientific theories. For instance, consider Newton and the law of gravity. Newton initially realized that nothing can move without a preexisting force and later he figured out that the downward movement of an apple was caused by the earthââ¬â¢s gravitational force. When a simple fruit cannot fall on the earth without a gravitational force then how can the entire universe be formed without a preexisting power. This substantiates the fact that in order to create something there has to be a preexisting force which causes the later events. Same is my belief that the world did not came into being all by itself, rather some already existing power caused this massive creation. Although the modern world has failed to recognize the supreme authority of the universe but I believe that someone has built this world and therefore the mankind unquestionably comes under His control which actually makes people accountable for their wrong deeds. All such believes about a preexisting force leads towards the concept of God. When initially God created us, He also gave us the direction towards living a successful and peaceful life and therefore He sent different Prophets in different era. Hence as human being one should lead the life prescribed by God through Prophets and the Holy
