Business Information Systems in Australia

Question: Describe about the business information systems in Australia. Answer: Introduction The information system is a well-organised system that collects, organises, stores, and helps in the communication of the information. It is the composed of the different aspects of technology in a systematic way that enables the processing and interpretation of the data and information (Bajdor Grabara 2014). The taxi cab is the basic mode of the travelling in Australia. There are lots of people who uses taxi cab for travelling instead of their car. UberX is one of the most standard cab providing system that is used in all big cities like, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, and lot more. This report deals with the information system used in UberX in Australia (Uber.com. 2016). 1. About UberX UberX is a part of Uber Technologies Inc. that is an American based company for providing transportation services to people using online booking system. UberX has spread all over the world and changed the mode of transportation for people. The system of waiting for a taxi has gone and most of the people opt for the UberX. 1.1 Why UberX? The simple question why UberX and why, not normal taxi services are because of the advanced information system used in UberX. The technological advancement in UberX has resulted in more usage of UberX against normal taxi services. Technical Advancement: For normal booking of taxi people either have to wait for a passenger less taxi or go to the pre-paid taxi service. But UberX can be booked online using the companys website. It supports an app that can be booked for the taxi cab booking. Economic: People say "Time is money". So there is no point in waiting for a taxi when it is possible to use the smartphone and book UberX cab for their own. UberX has low rates in compare to most of the other cab providing companies in the country (Hall et al. 2015). Behavioural: UberX app provides its customers with a chance for rating the ride and the driver. This feedback can be used for the improvement of their services. It encourages virtual social interactions of the customers and the company using Information technology (Tran et al. 2013). 2. Information system in UberX UberX uses the smartphone app for online booking of the cabs. The app acts as the gateway portal for rendering all the services provided by the company. Figure1: Uber app interface The app is available on all platforms like, Android, Windows, IOS, etc. The app interface is simple and has tabs for selecting the car, entering the pickup and drop points and estimation of fare before booking the cab. Figure2: GPS in UberX Modern Global Positioning Service or GPS is used by the company in its cab to know the exact location of pickup and drop for its customers (Leick et al. 2015). The customers enable the GPS on their device and book the cab using the app. The GPS enabled device lets them know and select the cab from the app interface. The cab drivers are provided with a smartphone with app service for the driver installed. They use the same GPS for locating the pickup location entered by its customers. In this way, the information system helps in booking the cab easily. 3. Implementing the New system of App The information system used in UberX is the app that is used for booking the cab. The company has developed the app based on programming and the internet services. The user needs to register in the app using either email or mobile no. The app once being registered takes the user to the interface where the user can see the map of the locality. If there are nay available cab, nearby it would be displayed on the screen. After booking the cab the driver's information is shown to the user and the driver is notified with the customers information. The system is quite good and easy to use. But there is a lack of security in the system. There have been some reports of the information leak or money charged without any reason. UberX uses the online payment gateways that are linked to their bank account. The hackers have somehow hacked into their account using the information from the app and resulted in this money theft. The risk of data leak can be easily solved using strong encryption in the app programming for securing the users information (Daemen Rijmen 2013). The phased operation works in various stages and a new framework is used in units or stages. It is a combination of direct cutover and parallel like pilot operation. The whole framework is given to a few clients rather a piece of a framework to all clients. In Phased operation, the threat of faults or discontents is restricted to the sample model. It is less costly than the full parallel operation. So phased operation can be used for implying the new technology (Hill Hill 2012). 4. Expected time for Implication The app development is in continuous motion. The occasional feedbacks from the customer help in modifying the services of the app and the cab. The encryption of data and information should be used in sample process and if it generates any bug, the system should be modified again. The expected time for the sample analysis could take approximately few months of time. But it depends on the level of app programming used. Conclusion The information system is the backbone of any industry. The new and innovative ideas and approach that are discovered in Information Technology provides benefits to people in every sphere of life. UberX is a major cab service provider that markets throughout the major areas of the globe. It is one of the leading cab service providers in Australia. The system and information system that UberX uses is the modern smartphone app technique. The app is the complete gateway for accessing all the services of the company. The app is an advanced application that uses modern information technologies like, GPS, wireless network, location indexing and fare estimation using the time and distance (Geisser 2016).
